Where am I now?
For many years, to the outmost displeasure of my deceased wife, I was adamant about continuing to work until the day I died!
Quite simply, my job was a passion and I loved it so much - and I still do - that I could not fathom why I would deprive myself of this pleasure. And then, as most of you know, she unexpectedly passed away while we were vacationing.
I quickly realized it could have also happened to me, and as such I would have left quite a mess behind, putting at risk the companies, its employees and my inheritance.
After much consideration, I concluded the best thing to do was to sell my companies to my most important vendor, Focal-Naim, thus creating a stable environment and growth for decades to come. And when it was all set and done, I felt relieved, as if a weight had been lifted off my shoulders.
All of my life, I behaved like someone who was driving a car on a highway - pedal to the metal - with one and only one destination in mind, oblivious to exits and all other roads.
My personal life has changed so much. More now than ever, I realize that time is precious and not unlimited. I still have plenty of dreams and I see new horizons before me. All of this brought me to ask myself what I really want to do with this last segment of my life.
As I will be turning 65 in September, I am now convinced there is more to do in life than just work!
Recently, I shared my thought with Christophe Sicaud, CEO of Vervent Group, and we agreed that my last day of active work would be the end of August this year.
In a smaller way, I will continue to support and share my historical knowledge with our new VP of Sales, Ludovic Lepoureau, who is leading our fast growing sales force which includes 4 Territory Managers and now 35 Sales Representatives. As well, I will be available to assist our VP of Marketing, Romain Vet, for shows or other special projects. I will also remain available to Simon Coté - our VP of Operations - who has many years of experience working with our systems and processes.
The ultimate goal is to ensure that the transition does not leave any voids, be it on the sales or administration side, with dealers or with suppliers. The vision of unrivalled support and service will remain ingrained in the company's culture.
For close to 40 years, I have enjoyed the relationships that I have developed - they have really enriched my life. It is a common knowledge that we live in a small world, so I know it is likely we will meet again. I will look forward to this moment.
