Marantz, a part of Sound United LLC, has announced the NR1200 high-performance stereo receiver.
According to Marantz, the NR1200 offers "superior audio quality and stable power output to loudspeakers" while also providing "greater connectivity for audio and video sources" than most two-channel receivers.
"We have seen a resurgence in demand for a high-performance two-channel receiver that enables people to enjoy a superior entertainment experience versus a traditional sound bar without making the leap to a multichannel AVR," said Emmanuel Millot, Sr. Director Brand Management at Sound United. "The NR1200 delivers Marantz's sonic signature with all of the power and connectivity options consumers and integrators need to get started. Its slim, sophisticated design makes it the perfect bragging piece for any entertaining space."
The new receiver is rated at 75W per channel (8 ohm, 20Hz-20KHz, with 0.08% THD). It uses separate symmetrical left and right power amplifier blocks. The power transformer is wired independently of the amplifier, preamplifier, tuner and front display, in order to improve channel separation and reduce crosstalk.
The unit also features custom-designed power supply capacitors" and a "double differential" DAC design, said to increase dynamic range and improve signal-to-noise ratio.
As far as connectivity, the NR120 offers 5 HDMI inputs, supporting HDCP 2.3, 4K Ultra HD video at 60Hz, 4:4:4 Pure Color sub-sampling, HLG, HDR10 High Dynamic Range, 21:9 video, 3D and BT.2020 pass-through. Audio Return Channel (ARC) support allows transmission of audio from the TV with a single HDMI cable, simplifying setup.
HDMI inputs automatically rename themselves based on information provided by the source device. HDMI CEC allows control of the NR1200 with a Smart TV remote.
A phono input is included for vinyl playback. There are also L/R main and zone 2 preamp outputs, as well as remote in/out terminals, and dual subwoofer outputs.
HEOS capability works with compatible speakers and electronics, for creating a wireless whole-home entertainment network. Users can play the same song in every room, or select a different song for each connected room. Streaming is supported from Amazon, Spotify, Pandora, Tidal and other services. HEOS supports Spotify Connect for users with free accounts, allowing streaming music directly from the Spotify app.
The NR1200 supports voice control via Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple Siri, when used in conjunction with the appropriate devices. For custom integrators, the NR1200 offers both IP and IR control, a web user interface, and suport for remote room monitoring services OvrC, ihiji Invision and Domotz Pro.
The NR1200 can decode ALAC, FLAC and WAV files up to 24/192 resolution, as well as DSD 2.8MHz and 5.6MHz. Music listening is possible via USB or over network sources. Auto low-latency mode (ALLM) lets Xbox One gamers get better responsiveness, when connected to select TVs that support the protocol.
The front panel offers independent treble, bass and balance knobs. A Setup Assistant offers on-screen directions. Four Smart Select buttons on the included remote can store the preferred setups for sources such as Blu-ray, set-top box or Internet radio station. The Marantz AVR Remote app, available for Android and iOS, provides complete control over all the latest Marantz network AV and Stereo receivers.
The Marantz NR1200 will be available August 15, for US$599 at authorized Marantz dealers.
