Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. has announced three new desktop monitors, each with unusual design features.
"Samsung is dedicated to providing continued innovation and leadership in the monitor category, and the versatility of our latest monitor lineup reflects this commitment," said Pat Bugos, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Home Entertainment, Samsung Canada. "These new monitors also support our larger strategy this year which is to continue bringing Canadians more choices so they can get beautifully-designed, hardworking devices that inspire them to do more."
The new Samsung Space Monitor has a sleek design and an innovative integrated arm that lets it save space. The arm clamps onto a desk and lets the user push the monitor flat against the wall when not in use. It also allows new positioning options, such as lowering the monitor's lower edge right to the desk surface. A "discreet" cable management system routes wires through the arm, keeping things tidy.
The 27-inch Space Monitor offers QHD resolution, and the 32-inch version goes to full 4K UHD.
The Samsung UR59C is a 32-inch monitor with rated 2,500:1 contrast ratio and full 3840x2160 4K UHD resolution. Its unique feature is a 1500R curved display surface, bezel-less on three sides, said to create "a truly immersive experience," for viewing video or still images, or for gaming.
The UR59C is housed in a Dark Blue Grey "super-slim" case with a depth of just 6.7mm and a fabric-textured rear casing. A "clean and simple" two-prong base reduces the footprint.
The Samsung CRG9 is touted as "the world's first high-resolution, super ultra-wide gaming monitor." With a 32:9 aspect ratio, Samsung calls it "equivalent to two 27-inch QHD 16:9 monitors placed side-by-side." The 49-inch display boasts 1,800mm curvature, 120Hz refresh rate, 4ms response time and compatibility with the FreeSync 2 variable-sync standard.
Resolution is dual QHD (5120x1440), with HDR10 support and a peak brightness of 1,000nits. Local dimming boosts contrast, and Quantum Dot technology provides wide-gamut color reproduction. Picture-by-Picture (PBP) allows two video sources to share the screen. Connectivity includes one HDMI port, 2 DisplayPorts, USB 3.0 and headphone jack.
In the US, the Samsung Space Monitor and curved UR59C are available for pre-order exclusively at BestBuy.com, Amazon.com and Samsung.com. The CRG9 Gaming Monitor will be available "later in 2019." Details of pricing and Canadian availability were not included in the announcement.
All three monitors are on display in the Samsung booth, #15006, at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
