At CES, Pioneer & Onkyo USA Corp is showing its new S9 wireless noise-canceling headphones.
The new Pioneer S9 headphones (SE-MS9BN) incorporate Bluetooth 4.2 with NFC technology for instant pairing with audio devices. Multi-point Function allows two phones to be wirelessly connected at the same time, potentially allowing the user to take calls with one phone while listening to music on another, and offering an easier solution for people who need to manage separate work and personal phones.
Both AAC and Qualcomm aptX HD ‘near-lossless' compression are supported for wireless use. A headphone cable is also included, allowing access to full uncompressed Hi-Res Audio.
The S9 headphone use 40mm rare-earth-magnet drivers to provide good bass extension and wide frequency response. Copper-Clad Aluminum Wire (CCAW) voice coils give "clean and accurate sound throughout the audio spectrum, from deep bass notes to crystalline highs."
Active noise-canceling technology minimizes external noise, especially low-frequencies. Ambient Awareness Mode lets in some outside sound for situations where improved situational awareness is required. Rated playback time is 27 hours via Bluetotth.
The S9 design is intended to honor Pioneer's "hi-fi pedigree" with "blended retro-modern style. Aluminum housings are available in silver-accented black or gold finish. Weight is evently distributed by a wide polyurethane-cushioned headband. Sliding hangers and low-profile earpads allow firm but flexible positioning.
A new and expandable Pioneer Headphone App, for both Android and iOS, adds extra options for wireless operation. It supports Bluetooth pairing, allows switching of noise management modes, and more. Pioneer plans to add more features via future app updates.
Buttons on the headphone housing allow volume adjustment, skipping tracks and taking voice calls. Google Assistant is accessed by pressing and holding a button.
