LG Taps Into Craft Beer Brewing Market

LG is tapping into a brand new product category, home-brewing of craft beer, with its new capsule-based HomeBrew craft beer making machine, which is set to debut at CES 2019 this coming January.

The device allows aspirations brewers to brew their own beer at home using single-use capsules, an optimized fermentation algorithm, and self-cleaning feature.

Each single-use capsule contains malt, yeast, hop oil, and flavouring. Simply press a button, and the HomeBrew will automate the process, from fermentation to carbonation and aging, to serving and cleaning. Use the free app (Android and iOS) to monitor the status at any time.

The optimized fermentation algorithm intelligently controls the fermenting process with precise temperature and pressure control, says LG. It also eliminates the need for cleaning, by automatically sanitizing the device using only hot water, ensuring everything is hygienically clean for the next batch.

Home brewers can make a variety of beers using the HomeBrew. Five flavoured available beers include: hoppy American IPA, golden American Pale Ale, full-bodied English Stout, zesty Belgian-style Witbier, and dry Czech Pilsner. The machine can produce up to five litres of premium quality beer in approximately two weeks, depending on the beer type.

"LG HomeBrew is the culmination of years of home appliance and water purification technologies that we have developed over the decades," says Song Dae-hyun, President of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. "Homebrewing has grown at an explosive pace, but there are still many beer lovers who haven't taken the jump because of the barrier to entry, and these are the consumers we think will be attracted to LG HomeBrew."
