CEDIA 2018: Focal Debuts New Kanta Speakers

Focal-JMlab SAS, based in Saint-Étienne, France, has announced the addition of three new premium speakers, rounding out its Kanta line.

Launched in October 2017, the Kanta line has now grown to include four models, aimed both at music lovers and home theater fans. Newly added are the Kanta N°1, Kanta N°3 and Kanta Center, showcased to the public for the first time at the CEDIA Expo.

All three new models incorporate the same technologies as the previous Kanta N°2: flax-cone speaker driver, befyllium tweeter that combines Infinite Acoustic Loading (IAL) and Infinite Horn Loading (IHL) technology, a Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) suspension and a Neutral Inductance Circuit (NIC) motor.

Focal notes that its TMD approach is based on technology used in earthquake-resistant skyscrapers, and in the suspension of racing cars. It controls the resonance frequency by means of an additional mass, oscillating in opposition. NIC is based on a Faraday ring, optimized so that the magnetic field is no longer affected by the position of the voice coil, by the amperage or the frequency of the current passing through it.

Focal's cones are made of high-quality flax-fiber cores, enclosed by two thin layers of glass fiber. This is said to yield high internal damping, high sound velocity and high flexural rigidity. This design has been evolved through Focal's experience with the Utopia and K2 Power lines.

Kanta N°1 is termed a premium solution for rooms under 25 square meters (269 square feet) in size. It can be installed on a stand, but is particularly suited for bookcase setup, allowing a piece of foam to be slid into the port in order to optimize bass.

Kanta N°3 is "the gold standard" of the line. It's aimed at larger rooms, up to about 80 square meters (861 square feet). It uses a latest-generation IAL tweeter.

Kanta Center is designed to reproduce vocals with "extreme neutrality" and optimum clarity, at either high or low volumes. Coupled with the Sub 1000 F and 3000ICW4 in-ceiling speakers, it's said to deliver excellent 3D audio with Dolby Atmos, DTS X or Auro-3D content.

Kanta N°2 was previously launched in October of 2017, targeted for rooms of of up to 25 meters square.
