Typically, an Amazon Prime subscription is $79 annually in Canada, which works out to $6.58/mo., less if you factor in the 30-day trial. Now, Amazon is offering a month-to-month subscription rate of $7.99 for those who don't want to commit to the full year.
"Prime brings together the best of entertainment and shopping into a simple package at an unbelievable value for Canadians," says Mike Strauch, Country Manager for Amazon Canada. "With the launch of a monthly membership, we have added yet another easy way to enjoy Prime benefits,"
According to Amazon, the number of Prime subscribers in Canada has doubled in the last 18 months. With the subscription, shoppers get free delivery on eligible items, as well as access to movies and TV series via Prime Video, access to streaming music on Prim Music, unlimited photo storage with Prime Photos, and Twitch Prime. They also receive 30-minute early access to select Lightning Deals, and get additional discounts via Amazon Family.
The monthly option may appeal to customers who only order during busy periods of the year, such as the back-to-school season, holiday season, the Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping period, or Amazon Prime Day. They can pay $8 to have multiple purchases delivered for free, then presumably cancel before the next month is renewed.
