Alongside announcing its new Note9 smartphone, as well as the Bixby-powered Galaxy Home smart speaker, Samsung also revealed its latest Galaxy Watch at a launch event in New York City earlier this week.
The new Galaxy Watch boasts a long-lasting battery, Bluetooth and LTE connectivity, wellness capabilities, new fitness and sleep monitoring capabilities, and new styles.
Available with three new watch faces in silver, midnight black, and rose gold, along with new customizable watch band colours, the Watch offers up to 80 hours of battery life per charge, eliminating the need to recharge it every night. It also includes LTE connectivity, which allows it to be used for messaging, calls, mapping, and music, without the need for it being connected to your smartphone.
The improved wellness experience includes a new advanced sleep tracker that tracks all levels of sleep, including REM cycles.
Galaxy Watch adds 21 new indoor exercises, tracking a total of 39 workouts that allow consumers to customize and change up their routines. There's also calorie tracking and personalized alerts. Use Bixby Vision to stay on track of meals: take a photo of each meal and instantly log nutritional information in Samsung Health and on Galaxy Watch for better calorie management.
In 46mm version and 42mm options, the watch face consists of a circular, rotating bezel, and Always On Display. For the first time, Galaxy Watch features analog watch ticks and hourly chimes, and a depth effect that casts shadows defining every detail on the watch face for a traditional look and feel, says Samsung. In addition, Galaxy Watch's certified military-level durability with Corning Gorilla Glass DX+ and leading water resistance with a 5 ATM rating.
Users can access and control other Samsung devices from the Watch via SmartThings, alongside accessing features like Samsung Health, Samsung Flow, Samsung Knox, Samsung Pay, and Bixby. They can do things like turn on the lights and TV, or adjust the temperature.
The Bluetooth Galaxy Watch will be available at Samsung Experience Stores, online at Samsung.com, and at major retail partners across Canada on September 21; the LTE version will launch in Canada later this year. Customers can pre-order the Bluetooth Watch beginning August 24, and through to September 20, 2018. Those who pre-order the Watch during this period at Samsung.com, a Samsung Experience Store, or Best Buy Canada, you will get a bonus wireless charger duo (value of $150), to charge both the Galaxy Watch and your smartphone simultaneously.
