At its Leadership Forum during the 2019 Canadian International Autoshow in Toronto, Volkswagen outlines its upcoming plans for the rollout of new electric vehicles, as well as a charging network for electric vehicles.
Volkswagen says it is working to expand production of electric vehicles worldwide, offering models at affordable prices. The cars in the I.D. family have been designed to operate exclusively as full battery-electric cars. The ID, the ID. CROZZ, the ID. BUZZ, and the ID. VIZZION concepts have already been presented, and are scheduled to hit the market in Canada in 2021.
Volkswagen says it plans to sell more than a million electric cars annually by 2025, becoming a leader in e-mobility. "That is a seismic shift for the organization," says the carmaker. "Volkswagen and its employees are excited by the change."
Additionally, to help facilitate the shift on the roads, Volkswagen Group Canada has established Electrify Canada, a comprehensive, consumer-friendl charging network for electric vehicles. The ultra-fast electric vehicle direct current charging network will start operating across Canada in the second quarter of this year, and will be accessible to vehicles from all manufacturers.
