Thorens, distributed in Canada through Montreal-based Erikson Consumer, has announced its upcoming TD 402 DD (direct-drive) turntable.
Arriving in August 2019, the TD 402 DD is Thorens' first direct-drive turntable to hit the market in over 30 years. With modern styling that honours classic Thorens design, the TD 402 DD features a new carbon tube tonearm, known as the TP 72; a near-silent direct-drive motor; a damped platter; integrated phono stage for moving magnet cartridges; and an auto shut-off function. It also comes equipped with an Audio-Technica AT 95VM E cartridge.
Because it is a direct-drive turntable, the TD 402 DD is ready to use out-of-the box. Just place the platter on the axis, balance the tone arm, and adjust the tracking force and anti-skating.
Boasting an elegant, yet timeless look, the TD 402 DD features a top of brushed aluminum sitting atop a massive plinth that comes in either piano black, or high gloss walnut veneer. Both models rest on black rubber damping feet with accented silver trim rings.
The TD 402 DD will be available in August. Canadian pricing is yet to be determined.
