The New Amazon Rewards Mastercard Gives Prime Members 2.5 Per Cent Cashback

Amazon Canada, TD, and Mastercard have launched the Amazon.ca Rewards Mastercard, which will allow eligible Prime members to earn 2.5% back at Amazon.ca and Whole Foods Market in Canada when they use the card, plus 1% back on all other eligible purchases.

Prime members who use the card in the U.S. or globally earn 2.5% back on purchases in a foreign currency. Cardholders who are not Prime members will earn 1.5% back on purchases at Amazon.ca and Whole Foods Market in Canada and 1% back on all other purchases.

MBNA, a division of Toronto-Dominion Bank, is issuing this card on Mastercard's global payments network.

"We are really excited to launch a new credit card that rewards our customers on all their purchases at Amazon.ca, Whole Foods Market stores in Canada, and everywhere else," says Mike Strauch, Country Manager for Amazon Canada. "As our Amazon Canada customers would expect from us, the Amazon.ca Rewards Mastercard offers great everyday rewards and value to shoppers. The card offers all cardholders an introductory offer as well, of 5 per cent back at Amazon.ca, Whole Foods Market stores in Canada, restaurants and grocery stores for up to six months or $3,000 in eligible purchases."

"We're thrilled to be the first Canadian-headquartered bank to issue an Amazon credit card," adds Katy Boshart, Senior Vice President, Credit Cards, TD Bank Group." The Amazon.ca Rewards Mastercard offers valuable and easy-to-redeem rewards for Amazon customers, with extra benefits for Prime members. The simple online application features 'apply and buy' technology, so approved customers can make immediate purchases on Amazon.ca without waiting for their card to arrive in the mail."

"Whether online, in-store or abroad, consumers today want a convenient, seamless and safe checkout to enhance and complete their shopping experience," continues Sohil Tiwari, Senior Vice President, Market Development, Canada, Mastercard. "We're excited to be the chosen network for the Amazon.ca Rewards Mastercard, providing consumers with the fast, simple and secure payment experience that they've come to expect with Mastercard and Amazon."

The card does not have any annual credit card fees, and there's no annual points caps and no expiration date for points. Every 2,000 points earned are automatically redeemed as a $20 Amazon.ca Gift Card that can be applied on millions of items when shopping at Amazon.ca.

Protection benefits include 90-day purchase assurance coverage; extended warranty and trip interruption coverage; and Mastercard contactless-enabled for tapping your card at participating merchants.

Customers who apply online and are approved can use their Amazon.ca Rewards Mastercard right away on Amazon.ca. It also offers easy electronic billing, and cardholders can manage their credit card anytime, online or on the phone.

Amazon Prime is $79 annually in Canada, or $7.99 when you sign on monthly.
