Today at a launch event in San Francisco, Samsung introduced its new Galaxy S10 line-up of smartphones, including three new devices: the S10, S10 Plus, and S10e.

The S10 is the mid-level model featuring a new Dynamic AMOLED display and next-generation camera, while the S10+ includes all of the top specs in terms of the display, camera, and performance. The S10e, meanwhile, offers premium features in a compact package and with a flat screen.

The Galaxy S10 has, as noted, the new Dynamic AMOLED display, which is said to produce vibrant bright colours and good contrast ratio to provide deeper blacks and brighter whites. It's also the first HDR10+-certified smartphone. Verified by DisplayMate, you'll enjoy accurate colours even in harsh sunlight. The Dynamic AMOLED display also reduces blue light through its TÜV Rheinland-certified Eye Comfort display.

The Dynamic AMOLED also includes an in-display Ultrasonic Fingerprint Sensor that reads the 3D contours of your physical thumbprint versus a 2D image of it for improved anti-spoofing. With FIDO Alliance Biometric Component certification, this next generation biometrics authentication offers vault-like security that only you can unlock.

In terms of the camera, new features include an ultra-wide lens with a 123-degree field-of-view; Super Steady and high-quality video recording with digital stabilization technology; front and rear cameras that can shoot in up to UHD quality, and a rear camera that can record in HDR10+; and an AI camera via a Neural Processing Unit (NPU), along with Scene Optimizer and Shot Suggestion.

Additional features include intelligent Wi-Fi that seamlessly switches between Wi-Fi and LTE and alerts of potential risky Wi-Fi connections; Wireless PowerShare for charging Qi-certified smartphones and compatible wearable devices (including charging itself from a regular charger while simultaneously charging another device); AI software that optimizes battery, CPU, RAM, and device temperature based on how you use your phone; and support for Wi-Fi 6.

With Bixby Routines, you can also automate routines and get personalized recommendations. Other features typical to the Galaxy line of smartphones are included included, such as Fast Wireless Charging 2.0, IP68 water and dust resistance, a next-generation processor, Samsung Health, Pay, and DeX.

With the S10+, you'll get 1TB of built-in storage, with the ability to add 512GB more via an optiona microSD memory card.

Other features are included for gamers, such as AI-based on-device gaming performance optimization software, Dolby Atmos for gaming mode, and a vapor chamber cooling system. The Galaxy S10 is also the first mobile device to be optimized for games created on the Unity platform.

Galaxy S10 is built with defense-grade Samsung Knox, as well as a secure storage backed by hardware, which houses your private keys for blockchain-enabled mobile services.

"Since its launch 10 years ago, the Galaxy S series has stood for premium innovation - offering consumers an incredible experience, and the ability to find the device that's right for them," says DJ Koh, President and CEO of IT & Mobile Communications Division, Samsung Electronics. "Galaxy S10 builds on that incredible legacy, and delivers breakthrough display, camera, and performance innovations. With our new premium devices, each built for a unique consumer in mind, Samsung is leveraging a decade of industry leadership to usher in a new era of smartphone technology."

The Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+ and Galaxy S10e will be available in Canada in three colours: Prism White, Prism Black and Prism Blue. The Galaxy S10+ will also be available in two premium Ceramic models: Ceramic Black and Ceramic White.16
