Samsung Electronics Canada has announced the latest iteration in its Galaxy Tab line of tablets.
The new Galaxy Tab S6 looks like more evolution than revolution, but the improvements should be welcomed by demanding users. The new model features a 10.5-inch, QQXGA-resolution Super AMOLED display, 4 speakers featuring sound by AKG and Dolby Atmos. Weight is 420g. There's an 8mp front-facing camera and dual 13/5mp rear-facing cameras.
The processor is a 7nm, 64-bit octa-core chip, running at up to 2.8/2.4/1.7GHz. Available memory/storage configurations include 6/128GB and 8/256GB. MicroSD storage up to 1TB is supported. The 7,040mAh battery is rated for up to 15 hours of video playback.
The Galaxy Tab S6 also features a redesigned S Pen, which Samsung says "has evolved to become the ultimate creativity and productivity partner." The S Pen now includes Bluetooth connectivity and wireless charging capabilities. It can recharge while attached magnetically to the back of the Tab S6. Samsung says the new S Pen can provide up to 10 hours of life after 10 minutes of charging.
New S Pen Air actions allow users to control the Galaxy Tab S6 with intuitive hand gestures, even when not holding the tablet itself. Options include pausing a video, taking a group photo and controlling slide presentations.
The Galaxy Tab S6 can convert handwritten Samsung Notes to digital text, and export to formats such as Microsoft Word with a single click. The Samsung Notes window has adjustable transparency, allowing users to take notes or make sketches while watching a video on the same screen.
A new version of Samsung DeX is said to create a more "PC-like" experience. DeX can now be launched using a new function key that's been added to the Book Cover Keyboard. The Keyboard has also been improved with an S Pen holder, a free angle stand, touch pad and extra function keys.
The Galaxy Tab S6 is billed as "Samsung's first tablet with a dual camera," incorporating an Ultra Wide lens within its 5.7mm -thick body. The new Ultra Wide lens offers a 123-degree field of view. A Neural Processing Unit can add enhanced effects.
The Galaxy Tab S6 is also Samsung's first tablet to feature an on-screen fingerprint scanner. Users can wake the device by tapping twice on the screen. Samsung's Knox security software is included.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 will be available for pre-order at Samsung Experience stores, online at samsung.com and samsung.ca, and at major retailers across Canada, starting August 8. MSRP starts at $899.99 CAD. Purchasers pre-ordering the Tab 6 together with a Keyboard Cover can save $124.99, from August 8 through 20.
