Pioneer's new Elite SC-LX502 7.2-channel network AV receiver, on display at CEDIA Expo in San Diego, CA, includes surround sound performance that's optimized for Dolby Atmos and DTS:S object-based audio playback.
The receiver, which headlines Pioneer's 2017 line-up, features Dolby Surround and DTS Neural:X solutions that allow standard multi-channel audio on DVD, Blu-ray Disc, and video streaming services via media players to be up-mixed through a speaker system with height channels.
Powered at 120 W/ch (8 ohms, 1 kHz, 0.08 % THD, 2ch Driven, FTC), the SC-LX502 features Class D3 (Direct Energy HD) Amplification to deliver high power through all channels simultaneously. Premium AKM AK4458 768 kHz/32-bit DAC for Hi-Res Audio offers clear and precise audio conversion with a unique output filter assuring low distortion and excellent S/N performance, says Pioneer. Direct DSD 11.2 MHz/5.6 MHz/2.8 MHz and DSD 5.6 MHz/2.8 MHz with PCM conversion are supported, as are FLAC, WAV, AIFF, and Apple Lossless to 192 kHz/24-bit resolution. MCACC auto room calibration joins Phase Control technology to resolve bass lag for improved organization.
DTS Play-Fi technology enables multi-room streaming to the receiver and DTS Play-Fi-enabled speakers, while Chromecast built-in supports streaming of millions of songs from popular music services. Further, the SC-LX502 works with the Google Assistant to offer voice control of Chromecast built-in features via Google Assistant built-in speakers.
FireConnect powered by Blackfire offers network and analog audio distribution, and streaming services such as Spotify, Deezer, Pandora, TuneIn, and TIDAL are built in. AirPlay is also included with 5GHz/2.4GHz Wi-Fi, offering stable connectivity. RS-232, IR in/out and two 12v triggers offer custom installers integration and control options.
HDMI terminals support 4K/60p, 4:4:4 24-bit video pass-through, and the HDCP 2.2 copy-protection standard for premium content. Video with HDR (High Dynamic Range) in HDR10 or HLG (Hybrid-Log Gamma) formats is passed through to a compatible display, together with Dolby Vision and BT.2020 wide colour gamut for vividly rich color performance.
The SC-LX502 will be available in Canada later this month for an MSRP of $1,350. Some features require a future firmware update.
