Onkyo USA Corporation has announced a new mid-priced integrated amplifier with built-in DAC and phono stage. Retailing in Canada for $900, the A-9150 is rated at 2x60 watts (4Ω, 20Hz-20kHz, 0.08% THD, both channels driven).
The power supply employs a customized high-current transformer and two large customized filter capacitors. Instead of conventional ICs, the A-9150's output stage is fed by Onkyo's Discrete SpectraModule, which has slew rate of over 500V/µsec. This delivers flat linearity into the megahertz region, the company says, for improved transients and imaging.
The A-9150's dedicated phono circuit board is compatible with moving-magnet and moving-coil cartridges. A customized head amp operates in discrete configuration for MC use.
In addition to four line-level analog inputs, the new amplifier has optical and coaxial SPDIF inputs and outputs (no USB connectivity though). It employs AKM's premium 768 kHz/32-bit AK4452 digital-to-analog converter, along with Onkyo's DIDRC Filter technology, which the company says completely removes ultra-high-frequency noise that can create an unnatural "synthesized" character.
