New AV Receivers from Pioneer are Ultra-Connected, Support HDR

Pioneer Home Entertainment U.S.A. has announced two new network AV receivers, both with full-bandwidth HDMI connectivity and support for HDCP 2.2, allowing passthrough of UHD 4Kp60 4:4:4 video with HDR and BT.2020 colour. Both the VSX-831 and VSX-1131 (shown here) feature built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and wireless multi-room sound based on the FireConnect system developed by Blackfire Research.

The VSX-831 is a 5.2-channel receiver, rated at 5x80 watts (20Hz-20kHz, 8Ω, 0.08% THD, two channels driven). It supports playback of high-res audio to 192kHz/24 bits, as well as DSD 64 and DSD 128.

The 7.2-channel VSX-1131 adds Dolby Atmos object-based immersive audio; DTS-X processing will be enabled via a firmware update scheduled for the fall. It also offers powered Zone 2 output and Zone 2 pre-out. Rated power is 7x100 watts (20Hz-20kHz, 8Ω, 0.08% THD, two channels driven).

Both models have a wide variety of network entertainment features, including Google Cast compatibility. The VSX-1131 also supports Apple AirPlay.

Canadian retail prices for the new receivers have not been announced. Stateside, the VSX-831 and VSX-1131 will retail for US$450 and US$600 respectively.
