In celebration of Record Store Day Canada, NAD has created eight limited edition versions of its popular C 558 turntable featuring a custom design by Toronto-based illustrator Brandon Serbec of Mystery Meat Design.
The eight turntables have received a vinyl-wrapped treatment, and Canadians will have the chance to win one through a contest that is being jointly run by NAD Electronics' Canadian distributor Lenbrook and the Record Store Day Canada organization.
"As a Canada-based brand, NAD Electronics was keen to work with Record Store Day Canada to celebrate Canada's rich musical history - one that has produced hundreds of internationally-acclaimed artists across nearly every genre," says NAD.
Serbec is known known for his stylized architectural designs that have appeared on posters, websites, and even craft beer cans throughout the city. The design was inspired by Canada's vibrant live music scene, and features a collage of live music venues inspired by well-known locales like the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver and neighbourhood pubs like The Ship in St. John's.
"Rather than rely on a lot of stereotypical tropes of Canada and music, we wanted to pay homage to the iconic live music venues around the country that are ground zero for talent development," says June Ip, Vice President of Marketing for NAD Electronics. "Live music can be found just about anywhere, from concert halls to church basements and everything in between. And while we may not always acknowledge it, these venues are part of the musical heritage of our communities and our country."
For a chance to win one of the eight turntables, enter the online contest between November 7 and 12 a.m. ET December 1, 2019, to coincide with Record Store Day Canada's Black Friday record releases. A winner will be announced December 3, 2019. Full contest details and terms and conditions are available at NADElectronics.com/RecordStoreDay. The remaining seven turntables will be used for future promotional opportunities, says Lenbrook.
Record Store Day, the organization and its Canadian affiliate, Record Store Day Canada, is managed by the Department of Record Stores and is organized in partnership with the Alliance of Independent Media Stores (AIMS), the Coalition of Independent Music Stores (CIMS) and promotes independent record stores year-round with events, special releases and other fun things. Record Store Day, the global celebration of the culture of the record store, takes place annually in April. Record Store Day 2020 is April 18.
