Rochester, MN-based NUU Mobile has revealed its first unlocked Android smartphone, the 4G Z8, built on Android 5.0 Lollipop, and boasting a 1.7 GHz Octa-core processor.
"We want to give our customers a phone that provides top quality specs, unmatched power and all of the benefits of the new Lollipop operating system without forcing high prices or locked contracts onto them," says NUU Mobile General Manager Danny Sit. "The Z8 is our highest performing phone yet, and we are thrilled to offer a top quality smartphone while staying true to our commitment to freedom and flexibility.
The smartphone has a 5.5" full HD display, 8 MP front camera with wide-angle lens and 13 MP Sony rear camera with a BSI sensor that helps in taking photos in any lighting. It can accept dual LTE SIM cards, plus expandable memory (it comes with 32 GB). And the 2,560 mAh battery is removable.
Additional features include noise cancelling audio; Bluetooth 4.0; a touch-to-wake function; LED notifications; and 2 GB RAM.
There's no word yet on whether the phone might make its way to Canada, but you can sign up for pre-order notifications at http://nuumobile.com. It is scheduled for available in the U.S. in mid-May, and will work on the T-Mobile and AT&T networks. Pricing has not yet been disclosed.
The NUU brand launched in Asia in 2012.
