Montreal Audio Fest is Going Ahead as Planned

As a reassurance to those in the hifi industry who have been hearing about various trade event cancellations due to the coronavirus, especially in Europe, the organizers of the Montreal Audiofest have confirmed that the event, scheduled for the end of March, will be going ahead as planned.

While trade shows like the Munich High End show and Mobile World Congress, which take place in Germany and Spain, respectively, have been cancelled, audiofest organizers say Montreal, QC remains a safe place to travel.

"We are saddened to hear about the decision of the Munich High End show to cancel," write Sarah Tremblay and Michel Plante, organizers of the event, "and would like to reassure you that Canada and principally Montreal are a safe place to travel."

Cases of the coronavirus, otherwise known as COVID-19, have been popping up in places all over the world, including a few confirmed cases in Canada. However, the areas with the most concern remain ones like China, Italy, and Iran, with many countries proceeding with extra caution or outright banning people traveling from these regions. There are no travel bans around Canada.

Montreal audiofest is held annually and will take place this year from March 27-29, 2020 at Hotel Bonaventure in the Quebec city. Audio and music enthusiasts will gather to see and listen to the latest audio gear and talk to experts, learn about and demo the latest technologies, products, and software, and potentially even make purchases or set appointments to do so at a later date. The show is free to attend with registration and open to the public as well as those in the hifi industry.

Typically, the Montreal audiofest welcomes about 6,00 visitors each year, the majority of whom are between 18 and 55 years old and 20% women. In 2019, says Tremblay and Plante, exhibitors reported selling close to $1 million to attendees.

"Hotel Bonaventure is a safe, welcoming place for you to promote your company and its products," says Tremblay and Plante. "It also upholds the strictest health standards."

The Toronto audiofest, which took place in the Ontario city last October, was a roaring success.
