LG Electronics' premium AI ThinQ TV lineup of televisions, shown earlier this year in Las Vegas at CES 2019, is now available in Canada, including both advanced OLED and NanoCell TVs, the new name for LG Super UHD TVs.
At the top of the line-up is the W9 OLED, which comes in 77" and 65" screen sizes, followed by a 65" E9 model and 77", 65", and 55" screen sizes in the C9 model. LG NanoCell TVs, meanwhile, which feature the latest in TV technology and 4K resolution, includes the SM95, SM90, SM86, and SM81 models in screen sizes ranging from 49" up to 86".
"LG continues to push the boundaries of TV technological innovation, which can clearly be seen from our premium TV lineup for 2019," says Richard White, Vice President, Strategy and Marketing at LG Electronics Canada. "LG's advanced AI technologies improve picture and sound quality while providing an enriched viewing experience."
Both the OLED and NanoCell TVs from LG will offer upgraded AI picture and sound quality thanks to the use of the company's advanced second generation α (Alpha) 9 Gen 2 and α (Alpha) 7 Gen 2 intelligent processors respectively.
The α9 Gen 2 processor in LG's W, E, and C series OLED TVs elevates picture and sound quality with deep learning technology and accesses an extensive database of visual information, says LG. This allows the processor to optimize images by recognizing source quality and implements the best algorithm to display a "stunningly real image" while analyzing ambient conditions to achieve the optimal level of screen brightness. The α9 Gen 2 processor fine-tunes audio according to content type, making movie and TV dialogue easier to understand and delivers crisp, clear vocals in songs. While the TV's AI feature can adjust audio settings to ideal levels based on the environment, users can also make manual adjustments if they wish.
LG's flagship TVs feature Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos for immersive audio. The 2019 OLED and select NanoCell models support HDMI 2.1 for the viewing of 4K content at a fast 120 frames per second as well as offering 4K high frame rate (4K HFR), automatic low latency mode (ALLM), variable refresh rate (VRR), and enhanced audio return channel (eARC).
Following the introduction of Google Assistant in 2018, LG Electronics Canada is now also introducing Amazon Alexa support for its 2019 ThinQ AI TVs. With the installed Alexa app, owners of compatible LG TVs can ask questions, control smart home products, access over 90,000 Alexa Skills, and more, without the need for a separate external device.
Using Alexa Routines, users can link together a series of actions such as traffic information, reporting the weather, and listing the day's agenda items by saying "Alexa, start my morning." They can also play music or audio books and take advantage of skills already available on the Alexa platform. Because Alexa is built-in, new updates and features for the voice service will continue to be available to LG AI TV users moving forward.
Additionally, LG 2019 OLED and select NanoCell TVs will receive AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support through a mid-year update. With AirPlay 2 support, owners of this year's AI ThinQ TVs will be able to watch videos on the Apple TV app and other video apps as well as enjoy photos and music on compatible LG TVs connected to an Apple device. And with Apple HomeKit, customers can control the newest LG TVs with AI ThinQ by interacting with Siri or the Home app.
