Focal has launched four new speakers in its Chora line, including a new model incorporating Dolby Atmos 5.2.4 capability.
The Chora 806, Chora 816 and Chora 826 HiFi speakers were previously released in September of last year. Focal is now adding the Chora826-D, its first to incorporate Dolby Atmos technology, as well as Chora Center and Chora Surround speakers, and the Sub 600P subwoofer.
The Chora 826-D becomes Focal's "reference product" for the line. A speaker driver installed above the loudspeaker directs sound toward the ceiling "at a carefully calculated angle," so that the audio signal is reflected around the room. The result, says Focal, is that listeners are "wrapped in the sound," and "immersed in a highly realistic 3D world."
The Chora Center, placed on a stand or TV unit, can position dialog and reproduce it "with exceptional clarity and precision." Chora Surround speakers are designed to be easily fixed to a wall, add side or rear channels. The Sub 600P adds 600 watts of bass.
Chora speakers incorporate drivers built using Focal's Slatefiber cones. Unveiled in 2019, Slatefiber cones are manufactured in France, using recycled non-woven carbon fibers and thermoplastic polymer. The lightness of the carbon fibers is said to produce excellent acoustic performance.
Tweeters use Focal's aluminum/magnesium TNF design. The Sub 600P features a Polyflex cone, heavier and more rigid to produce strong bass.
Chora 806, Chora 816 and Chora 826 are available now at Focal.com and Amazon.com. (The Chora 806 and 816 are currently listed as available on Amazon.ca, while the Chora 826 is expected to be in stock within a few days.) The rest of the Chora line is expected to be available in February, with the Sub 600P following in the spring. Available finishes include Black, Light Wood and Dark Wood.
Focal is based in Saint-Étienne, France. The company exports over 80% of its production, mainly to Europe, North America and Southeast Asia. In 2017, Focal merged with Naim Audio Ltd. The resulting holding company, Vervent Audio Group, now has an annual turnover of €92 million.
