CES 2019: Pioneer Debuts E8 Wireless Sports Earbuds

Pioneer & Onkyo USA Corporation, based in Torrance, CA, has introduced its new E8 Wireless In-Ear Sports Headphones.

Pioneer's E8 headphones include three pairs of "secure ear fins," in small, medium and large sizes. According to Pioneer, the fins lock each ear bud into place, "making them almost impossible to shake free during a workout." A set of ambient-awareness earphone tips feature three narrow slits that let low-level ambient sounds into the ear, allowing users to hear what's happening around them.

The E8 earphones are rated IPX5 water resistant. A hands-free Multi-Function button controls playback, phone and voice-assistant functions. The Pioneer Notification App for Android can read out mail, news and other text.

Inside the buds are 6mm rare-earth magnet drivers. Rated frequency response is from 20Hz to 20kHz. An Ear Direct Mount Structure features angled drivers and nozzles that aim sound into the inner ear, which should reduce "damping issues.," and produce "clear, detailed and dynamic" sound.

While true lossless Bluetooth audio is still not a thing, the E8 headphones support both SBC and AAC compression codecs. Transmission is rated up to 10m, via Bluetooth version 4.2.

Internal batteries provide "a maximum three hours continuous connection (including audio playback" on a charge. The included carrying case includes a batter that can recharge the earbuds twice, allowing a total of about 9 hours between visits to a power outlet. Shaking the case causes built-in LEDs to display the remaining battery charge.

Pioneer E8 Wireless In-Ear Sports Headphones will be available in yellow, gray and pink, and retail for $199.99 CAD.
