CES 2019: New TEAC Amp and Power Amp

Onkyo USA has announced the introduction of two new amplifiers from TEAC.

The two new units are the TEAC AX-505 Stereo Integrated Amplifier (MSRP US$1,599.99) and TEAC AP-505 Stereo Power Amplifier (MSRP US$1,599.99).

"TEAC has a long-established reputation for creating innovative products designed for producing high fidelity audio and the AP-505 and AX-505 are worthy newcomers," said Don Milks, Director of Marketing & Product Localization for Onkyo USA. "We are excited to debut these two impressive products at CES and provide them the media and retail exposure they deserve."

TEAC AX-505

The AX-505 amplifier features a Hypex Ncore class D power amplifier, specifically tuned for TEAC, with a rated output of 70W+70W (8ohms, 1KHz, THD 0.8%). The power amplifier section has integrated protection circuits to guard against current surges, over-voltage and overheating.

A toroidal-core power transformer is said to improve the power supply's ability to resist fluctuations in output, allowing the AX-505 to maintain its rated output power under heavy load. The power section also integrates Schottky barrier diodes, to increase efficiency and reduce heat. The headphone amplifier with CCLC delivers full low-frequency audio and "a robust headphone soundstage."

Design details include an aluminum cabinet with machined aluminum knobs and large gold-plated screw-style speaker terminals. VU meters have a four-step dimmable backlight and AD/DA circuits. It's available in black or silver. Availability is scheduled for January.

TEAC AP-505

The AX-505 has the same design aesthetic as the AX-505, with the addition of three-position patent-registered pin-point feet.

It features the Hypex Ncore Class-D power amplifier, rated at 70W+70W (8 ohms, 1KHz, THD 0.8%), with a Bridge Tied Load (BTL) output configuration of 200W (8 ohms, monaural), that's part of three switchable output modes: Stereo, BTL (bridge mode) and Bi-Amp (dual monaural). Availability is scheduled for February.
